Whatever we do this Lent, more time must be spent in prayer. 3) Almsgiving: Sharing with those less fortunate has always been a practice and a sign of being a Christian. In fact, St. James in his Letter states that those who fail to give alms are phony Christians. St. Paul in his First Letter to the Corinthians 6:10 reminds us that those who do not give alms are considered to be misers by the Lord, and will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
Let us all respond to the Challenges the Lord lays before us this Lent by works of Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving.
We conclude our Lenten Observances by making the best confession of our lives, so that we truly can die to self to rise to a new life in Christ.

"TOGETHER IN MISSION"
We are asked to stand in solidarity with our Archbishop and the priests, religious and lay leaders of our Archdiocese, especially with those who serve in the poorest of parishes in our Archdiocese. We cannot allow ourselves to reasons why these parishes may be poor, nor can we ignore the needs of our poorest sisters and brothers. Rather, we need to stand in fullest and most heartfelt support with our poorest sisters and brothers in their needs.
"Together in Mission" truly does help our poorest parish communities. However, as the income has risen so has the bills for services risen and risen. The help we give in reality shrinks unless we increase our donation. Today our poorest parishes have "real needs" that are not being met. It is estimated that it would take $128,000,000.00 today to make all the necessary repairs and do the retrofitting needed in these parishes and parish schools.
If you have not yet made your Pledge Commitment, prayerfully consider giving a little more than you have over the past years. We need to come to a real awareness of the burdens and the genuine needs that exist in our poorest parishes. We need to understand that our Baptismal Calling encourages us, in fact impels us, to share with those who are less fortunate. Let us dig deeply this year and try our best to help this worthwhile project, "Together in Mission".

FRIDAY LENTEN SOUP DINNER
During Lent, which begins this Wednesday, St. Jude's Knights of Columbus will once again serve a Lenten Soup Dinner each Friday evening from 5:30 to 7:15 p.m. Different parish ministries and groups are joining with our Knights to put on these Soup/Salad dinners. Dinners are served early so that participants can attend Stations at 7:30 p.m.
There is no charge for these simple Lenten Dinners. However, donations are accepted. Last year over $1,600.00 was given to different charities to help our local poor.
The First Lenten Dinner will be this Friday, February 15th. Bring your whole family, and make the evening complete by attending Stations afterwards.
