ARCHDIOCESAN
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CONGRESS
Time To Register

The Annual Archdiocesan Religious Education Congress is Feb. 14-17, 2002 and is now accepting registrations.  Although this Congress began as a help for catechists, it has grown into a fantastic Congress for all kinds of sessions for spiritual and religious growth. There are sessions for personal growth and development for parents, for all who minister in every way in a parish.  There will be over 250 workshops presented in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, and Sign Language. These workshops will be presented by renowned speakers from across the United States, Mexico, Philippines and Europe. Topics will range from personal spiritual growth to personal development to theology and to catechetics.

Thursday, February 14th, will be Youth Day.  More than 10,000 high schoolers from across our Archdiocese, plus from dioceses around the State and even from Nevada, Arizona and Hawaii will participate in 13 diverse workshops, a concert, and a Eucharistic Liturgy with our Cardinal-Archbishop presiding and concelebrated by all the priests in attendance. Members of our Confirmation Program will also attend.

Sister Edith Pendergast will open the Congress on Friday morning and Cardinal Roger Mahony will close the Congress Sunday afternoon with a Eucharistic Liturgy.

During the Congress Liturgy of the Hours Morning and Evening Prayer will be prayed, plus there will be special late afternoon Eucharistic Liturgies. The Most Blessed Sacrament will be open during all Congress hours, and the Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available throughout the Congress outside of Mass times.

Register now.  Joan Nardone, our parish DRE, has Congress Booklets.  You may call Joan during regular Religious Ed Office hours:
818-889-0612. You may also call Adrian Whitaker at 213-637-7332 or 213-637-7346.  Online credit card registration is available at www.RECongress.org.

AN INVITATION
From Fr. Bill and our Parish Family
If You Are Not a Catholic

You are always welcome amongst us.  You may come as often as you like to our Sunday Eucharist and/or any of our other celebrations or activities.  You are also invited to come and find out what we Catholic Christians are all about.  In fact, we would really like to tell you all about us...what we believe as Catholic Christians, how we express our beliefs, and how we live it.  We are not perfect.  We are sinners who have hope because of our faith in Christ Jesus.  In fact, we acknowledge that we are sinners who are trying to repent and to change our ways, so as to be able to believe more deeply in the Good News of Jesus and thus live out the Gospel more faithfully in our daily lives.  We believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Promised One, and that He came to save us.  We very much believe in the forgiveness of sin and God's unconditional love for all of His children.  We have experienced God's movement and presence in the Catholic Christian Church.  We would love to have you as a part of our community, and so we invite you to join us.

We will have a wonderful evening, tomorrow Monday, January 14th in our Parish Hall at 7:30 p.m. to meet you and hear your stories.  Fr. Bill and all of us would delight in personally meeting you and extending our hands in greeting and welcome.

If you are an adult and out of high school, and you have not received the Sacrament of Confirmation, you are encouraged to Sign-Up and take the necessary classes to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation this coming April.     The requirements are simple:

  1. register with our Dir. Of Rel. Ed., Joan Nardone; forms are available in the Pastoral Center, and then return these forms during regular Religious Ed Office hours;
  2. present a copy of your Baptismal Certificate; and
  3. faithfully participate in the Adult Confirmation Sessions to be held in our Deanery beginning in the New Year of  2002.
