The spiritual growth of the laity, defined by Vatican Council II and the Catechism of the Catholic Church, is primarily achieved by active participation in the liturgy. In Christian tradition, liturgy means the participation of the "People of God" in the "work of God." The word "liturgy" refers not only to the celebration of divine worship but also the proclamation of the
Gospel and to active charity.

All that we can do, then, to enhance the participation of God's People in the celebration of the Mass, in the Proclamation of the Gospel, in Catholic Education and the Outreach Ministries contributes to our parish community's spiritual development.

This has been the aim of St. Jude's Renovation and Building Program from the beginning.

On inspection, the proposed changes to the Church, School and building the new combined Pastoral Center (Auditorium, Administrative Offices, Meeting Rooms and Classrooms) are easily related to "spirituality." For example, providing much-needed office space supports Religious Education and Outreach Ministries. In contrast, the proposed changes to the Church might require deeper reflection. For instance, improving the acoustic properties of the Church will greatly contribute to our hearing of the Proclaimed Word.

The message seems clear: the Renovation and Building Program does indeed help us spiritually.
