ST. JUDE CATHOLIC COMMUNITY   PAGE EIGHT    DECEMBER 3,  2000

HOMELESS AND HUNGRY

The winter season is here again.    The Conejo Valley Winter Shelter Program has begun.    St. Jude's responsibility this year is to provide dinner, lunch and breakfast once a month for about 40 homeless people.     The lunches are being made this year by our Parish School Students in the 7th and 8th grades, and also by the "Mommy and Me" group.

Many thanks to these two groups for the especially nutritious lunches they will be making.

Volunteers are needed for the dinners and breakfasts.    Breakfast consist of juice, milk, cereal, sweet rolls and/or bagels.    The dinners are made-up of four (4) salads, four (4) desserts, four (4) vegetables, and four (4) entrees --- each large enough to feed ten (10) people.  About twenty (20) helpers are needed each month for this project.    The food is prepared at home and brought o St. Jude's and then transported to the host church, where the dinners are served.    Those who wish to help serve are also welcome.    We are scheduled to provide meals on the first Friday of each month for four (4) consecutive months starting in December.

Soap bars, shampoo and hair conditioner bottles, mouthwashes, given to people as a courtesy in hotels/motels are very welcome.

Those who are interested or who may have some questions about this ministry to the poor, are asked to please phone Arline LaPorte at
805 - 496 - 6345.

SISTER DISCIPLES OF DIVINE MASTER

The Sister Disciples of the Divine Master also need help.     Non-perishable groceries and personal hygiene products would be appreciated.

BIBLE STUDY - Sunday to Sunday

Please come join us in preparing for next Sunday's Mass.     We meet to learn about and discuss the Readings for the upcoming Sunday Liturgy.    Each week we watch a 20 minute video, stopping the tape at appropriate moments to discuss the material presented.   We enjoy lively conversation, faith sharing moments, and good Christian fellowship, as we learn more about the Bible and thereby enable ourselves to be more fully prepared to celebrate next Sunday's Mass.

Tuesday mornings 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. in Room 7.       This week we will do the
"Second Sunday of Advent" (C)."    All are welcome!   Come prepare for next Sunday's Mass!   No preparation!     No homework!

Father Bill will speak to the group on Tuesday, December 12th, at 9:00 a.m. regarding the Luke, whose Gospel will be read during Year C.      He will also answer questions regarding the Bible, especially regarding the Sunday Readings.

For more information, please contact Linda Odre at
805 - 373 - 1348.
