ADOPT-A-FAMILY
Can Still Sign-Up

Parishioners are still needed to Sign-Up for our
"Adopt-A-Family" Christmas Program.   Each year St. Jude Catholic Community parishioners participate in this wonderful expression of Christian love and care by providing food and gifts to an ever-increasing number of families in our local area and inner city parishioners.     This year's emphasis focuses on helping families identified by the Ventura Region of Catholic Charities, and St. Malachy's in Los Angeles.

It is so simple to
"Adopt-A-Family", and yet the impact is so profound and so significant.    All that is required, is that you Sign-Up by Calling for the name of a family, and for the names of the family members and their ages.    Then you provide three (3) boxes of non-perishable food per family, and a personal gift for each family member.     The gifts should be wrapped with a card stating the person's name.

Then on Saturday, December16th, you bring your boxes ands gifts to St. Jude's Parking Lot between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

You can still Sign-Up as we have many families still without anyone to help them.

Please call John or Jackie Treuting at
805 - 495 - 4630 to Sign-Up or for more information.

PS:   Helpers are also needed to make this our best year ever.     If you can help, please call John or Jackie.    All who help are guaranteed to experience a super Christmas!

SANDWICHES FOR IMPACTO AND
LAS FAMILIAS DEL PUEBLO

Sandwiches for the children at Impacto and Las Familias del Pueblo in Los Angeles will be made on Monday, November 20th, at 10:00 a.m. in the parish hall.  The love gifts for this month are puzzles and playing cards.

The Sisters Disciples of the Divine Master also need your help.  Non-perishable groceries and personal hygiene products would be appreciated.  If you are willing to help with these important charities, please call Arline LaPorte at 805 496-6345.

Thank you for your loving concern!!!

AGAPE

Couples meet monthly from September to June either at St. Jude's or St. Maximillian.     Usually there is a presentation on some aspect of marriage or family life, with social time before and after each gathering as an integral part of the monthly meeting.

E-mail Prayer Chain requests are passed quickly, when asked.     There is also a Monthly Women's Night Out (movie night, cookie exchange, etc.), and a Men's Softball game Friday night Fall and Spring, with families enjoying pizza after early games.

Summer:   Family Camping Trip, Family BBQ & Swim Party, Family Beach Days.

For more info about all these, and for the 2000-2001 schedule and location please call Marilou O'Halloran at
805 - 494 - 6668.

Mission Statement:   To support the Sacrament of Matrimony through openness to learning, sharing, growing in our married relationships;   upholding the sacredness and value of Family Life;    acknowledging the Presence of God in our lives;   and reaching-out to support one another in both fun time and in difficult times --- thru laughter, encouraging, helping, calling, listening, forgiving, praying, holding, caring, in being Jesus to one another.

HOMELESS AND HUNGRY

The winter season is here again.    The Conejo Valley Winter Shelter Program has begun.    St. Jude's responsibility this year is to provide dinner, lunch and breakfast once a month for about 40 homeless people.     The lunches are being made this year by our Parish School Students in the 7th and 8th grades, and also by the "Mommy and Me" group.

Many thanks to these two groups for the especially nutritious lunches they will be making.

Volunteers are needed for the dinners and breakfasts.    Breakfast consists of juice, milk, cereal, sweet rolls and/or bagels.    The dinners are made-up of four (4) salads, four (4) desserts, four (4) vegetables, and four (4) entrees --- each large enough to feed ten (10) people.  About twenty (20) helpers are needed each month for this project.    The food is prepared at home and brought to St. Jude's and then transported to the host church, where the dinners are served.    Those who wish to help serve are also welcome.    We are scheduled to provide meals on the first Friday of each month for four (4) consecutive months starting in December.
Soap bars, shampoo and hair conditioner bottles, mouth washes, given to people as a courtesy in hotels/motels are very welcome.

Those who are interested or who may have some questions about this ministry to the poor, are asked to please phone Arline LaPorte at
805 - 496 - 6345.
