DEVELOPMENT COLLECTION
Next Weekend
In describing Jubilee, Luke in his Gospel said: "The spirit of the Lord is upon me because He has anointed Me to bring glad tidings to the poor." (Luke 4:18).
Around our country next weekend, we will be asked to take-up this Biblical Challenge of "bringing glad tidings to the poor." The occasion is the Annual Collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. For 30 years now this initiative by the American Catholics has been bringing glad tidings to the poor by working to address the root causes of poverty. It has been the Church's helping hand to poor and low-income people in our Archdiocese and around our country. Grants from this Campaign have funded several thousand self-help projects to empower, and to provide opportunities, for people to work together to solve community problems, create jobs, build affordable housing, help seniors and others with limited incomes to make necessary housing repairs, and organize for positive change.
Please come prepared next weekend to extend the reach of our "glad tidings" by participating in this year's Catholic Campaign for Human Development.
The Usher/Greeters are passing out Special Envelopes this weekend.
For those who are tithing, this is an excellent charity to share the extra 5% of the Tithe Unto the Lord.
Remember: Your gift helps people help themselves.

ADOPT-A-FAMILY
Can Still Sign-Up
The last weekend of October, parishioners began Signing-Up for our "Adopt-A-Family" Christmas Program. Each year St. Jude Catholic Community parishioners participate in this wonderful expression of Christian love and care by providing food and gifts to an ever-increasing number of families in our local area and inner city parishioners. This year's emphasis focuses on helping families identified by the Ventura Region of Catholic Charities, and St. Malachy's in Los Angeles.
It is so simple to "Adopt-A-Family", and yet the impact is so profound and so significant. All that is required, is that you Sign-Up by Calling for the name of a family, and for the names of the family members and their ages. Then you provide three (3) boxes of non-perishable food per family, and a personal gift for each family member. The gifts should be wrapped with a card stating the person's name. Then on Saturday, December 16th, you bring your boxes ands gifts to St. Jude's Parking Lot between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
