BIBLE STUDY - Sunday to Sunday

Please come join us in preparing for next Sunday's Mass.     We meet to learn about and discuss the Readings for the upcoming Sunday Liturgy.    Each week we watch a 20 minute video, stopping the tape at appropriate moments to discuss the material presented.   We enjoy lively conversation, faith sharing moments, and good Christian fellowship, as we learn more about the Bible and thereby enable ourselves to be more fully prepared to celebrate next Sunday's Mass.

Tuesday mornings 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. in Room 7.       This week we will do the
"Twenty-Ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time" (B)."    All are welcome!   Come prepare for next Sunday's Mass!   No preparation!     No homework!

For more information, please contact Linda Odre at
805 - 373 - 1348.

SR. ANTONIA'S BIBLE STUDY
"Women in the Old Testament"

Sr. Antonia Byrne, S.S.L., has a wonderfully exciting Bible Study this semester regarding
"Women in the Old Testament".     The unique characteristics of each of these women --- some queens, some slaves, some housewives --- make stories to feed our imaginations, and to encourage each of us to want to study more of the Bible.

Tuesday Evenings from 7:30-9:30 p.m.    And, there is a repeat session on Thursday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.     We hope to see you there!

PS:    The Bible should be like a good friend.    So please mark passages!    Write notes!   So you can quickly open your ole friend and be fed by God's Holy Word!

LITTLE KNOWN BIBLE FACTS

The following answers were given by some students at Williamson Presbyterian Church in Williamson, South Carolina:

"Guinesses" is the name of the first book of the Bible.

"Adam" and "Eve" were created from an apple tree,

Lot's wife was a pillar of salt by day, and a ball of fire at night.

Samson slayed the Philistines with the axe of the Apostles.

"Unleavened Bread" is bread made without any ingredients.

Moses went to the top of
"Mount Cyanide" to get the Ten Commandments.

Joshua led the Hebrews in the battle of
"Geritol".

David fought the Finkelsteins, a race of people who lived in Biblical times.

HAVE YOU FALLEN AWAY
&
NOW WANT TO RETURN

We have a wonderful program for all who have fallen-away from the practice of our Catholic Faith.   It pauses to listen to the hurts and the pains, to the misunderstandings and difficulties.     It reflects upon what the Catholic Christian Faith is all about.      It hopefully encourages and helps those participating in it, to know the Lord's merciful, healing love and comfort.

No one says anything to put anyone down.    All listen and share openly and caringly.   Hopefully this program helps those who have fallen-away to come back Home.     We do miss you!     We do wish you would come back Home!       We are not whole without you!

Next program begins after the Christmas and New Year holidays.     Deacon Joe Manion heads up this healing ministry.      For more information, please contract Deacon Joe at
818 - 889 - 1279, ext. 219.

EMBRACING THE DYING MINISTRY

One of the most special ministries in our parish is "Embracing the Dying".    Those in this ministry embrace those who are dying and their families.     They serve as spiritual hospice persons.     Helping the dying person and the family to share last thoughts and feelings.     Helping the family to accept the impending death of a loved one.     Helping the dying person with their family to compose their funeral service:  music, Readings, etc.    So that on the day of the Christian Burial ritual, the family truly feels one with their beloved who has died and gone to the Lord, and knows that their loved one helped put this together as what they wanted all to feel, and be comforted by, during the funeral rituals.

If you would like to join this ministry of love and compassion, please contact either Debbie Meier at
818 - 597 - 1464, or Jean Marie Cull at 805 - 497 - 6473.
