ST. JUDE CATHOLIC COMMUNITY   PAGE EIGHT    OCTOBER 8,  2000

SR. ANTONIA'S BIBLE STUDY
"Women in the Old Testament"

Sr. Antonia Byrne, S.S.L., has a wonderfully exciting Bible Study this semester:
"Women in the Old Testament".     The unique characteristics of each of these women --- some queens, some slaves, some housewives --- make stories to feed our imaginations and encourage men and women to want to study more of the Bible.

Not only does this program give us personal knowledge and growth, it also makes it easier and more comfortable for us to share our faith.    Strengthening our knowledge of the Bible, with Sister Antonia as our experienced guide, makes the Bible and its message come alive.

Tuesday Evenings from 7:30-9:30 p.m.    And, there is a repeat session on Thursday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.     We hope to see you there!

RCIA SPONSORS NEEDED

Volunteers are needed to study with and walk with those wishing to know about our Catholic Christian Faith.    All that is needed, is to have a willing heart to listen and to share.

Many Catholics shy away from answering questions about our Catholic Faith, whether the question comes from a child or an adult.    Serving as an RCIA Sponsor is a fantastic way to learn our Faith as you help others on their journey with the Lord.     RCIA Sponsors learn even as they help others learn, as we share our stories and reflect on God's Word.    For all the while, the Lord is touching the Sponsor's heart and mind, while touching also the heart and soul of the person searching to know the Lord.

To find-out more about this wonderful ministry in the Lord's Vineyard, or to volunteer, please call Nancy McAvoy at
805 - 480 - 4031, or Jenifer Carmichael at 805 - 497 - 2551.

WELCOME NEWCOMERS

If you are new to our parish community, please come by our Pastoral Parish Office to meet the staff and priests and to register.     If time is of the essence, then pick up a registration form from the back of the church, fill it out and turn it in.      Soon after registering, our Newcomers Hospitality will visit your home and share with you about our many parish activities, and then you can leave your imprint on who we are.

If you are interested in welcoming newcomers to our parish family, please contact Denise Ferrone at
818 - 597 - 9177 or Monica Larson at 818 - 597 - 9177.

EMBRACING THE DYING MINISTRY

One of the most special ministries in our parish, is "Embracing the Dying".    Those in this ministry embrace those who are dying and their families.     They serve as spiritual hospice persons.     Helping the dying person and the family to share last thoughts and feelings.     Helping the family to accept the impending death of a loved one.     Helping the dying person with their family to compose their funeral service:  music, Readings, etc.    So that on the day of the Christian Burial ritual, the family truly feels one with their beloved who has died and gone to the Lord, and knows that their loved one helped put this together as what they wanted all to feel, and be comforted by, during the funeral rituals.

If you would like to join this ministry of love and compassion, please contact either Debbie Meier at
818 - 597 - 1464, or Jean Marie Cull at 805 - 497 - 6473.
