CARE-GIVERS
"Respite & Renewal"

"Respite & Renewal" is a wonderful program designed to offer Care-Givers support.

We all become a Care Giver at some time during our lives.    When we become a parent of an emotionally and/or physically disabled child; or we have elderly parents or relatives to care for;   or we are involved in many bereavement or detention or other ministries that drain us even as we serve.   From time to time we need a
"Respite" and we need to be "Renewed".

This group meets every First Thursday in Rooms 3 & 4 of the Parish Hall from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.     Next gathering will be Thursday, November 2nd.     No dues!     No fees!     Just sharing and support and love.

For more information, please contact Margaret Pontius
Evenings Only at 818 - 706 - 1842.

LECTOR TRAINING

Have you ever experienced a fleeting desire to proclaim God's Holy Word during weekday or Sunday Masses?     If so, God may indeed be nudging you to become a Minister of the Word --- a Lector.

Suzanne Austin, an Archdiocesan Trainer, will facilitate six consecutive weekly-sessions leading to Lector Certification, beginning this Wednesday, October 11th from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m.     Classes conclude November 15th.

These sessions are required for all Lectors, because they allow participants an opportunity to explore this ministry in a climate of encouragement, acceptance, and spirituality.      Enrollment constitutes a desire for discernment, not a commitment.

Class size is limited.    To register, please call Christine Johncola at
818 - 889 - 5708.

THE JUBILEE HOLY YEAR INDULGENCE

What Is An Indulgence?
An Indulgence is "the remission before God of some or all the temporal punishment due to sins, already forgiven through the Sacrament of Penance".

What Is the Jubilee Holy Year Indulgence?
It is a Special Indulgence granted by His Holiness during this Jubilee Year 2000.

How Do We Gain the Jubilee Holy Year Indulgence?
Certain conditions need to be fulfilled by each person in order to gain this total remission of the temporal punishment due to our sins.     Conditions are:

  1. making a worthy Sacramental Confession,
  2. worthily receiving Holy Communion,
  3. praying for our Holy Father saying the Creed, an Our Father, a Hail Mary, and a Glory Be.
  4. either making a Pilgrimage by visiting a Church,
  5. or performing charitable works (caring for sick or elderly, visiting one in prison or in trouble, teaching a catechism class, etc.)

How Often Can we Gain this Jubilee Holy Year Indulgence?      We can only gain this Indulgence once per day.

For Whom Can this Indulgence Be Gained?    We can gain this Jubilee Holy Year Indulgence for someone who has died, or for ourselves.

EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS NEEDED

Anyone wishing to become a Eucharistic Minister, especially at the Sunday Noon and the two 5:00 p.m. Masses, is asked to contact Bill Rubin at
805 - 449 - 1373.

The only requirements are that you are a Fully Initiated Catholic Christian (baptized, confirmed, and made First Communion), and that you are "canonically" able to receive the Sacraments and that you are doing so.

BIBLE STUDY - Sunday to Sunday

Please come join us in preparing for next Sunday's Mass.     We meet to learn about and discuss the Readings for the upcoming Sunday Liturgy.    Each week we watch a 20 minute video, stopping the tape at appropriate moments to discuss the material presented.   We enjoy lively conversation, faith sharing moments, and good Christian fellowship, as we learn more about the Bible and thereby enable ourselves to be more fully prepared to celebrate next Sunday's Mass.

Tuesday mornings 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. in Room 7.       This week we will do the
"Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time" (B)."    All are welcome!   Come prepare for next Sunday's Mass!   No preparation!     No homework!

For more information, please contact Linda Odre at
805 - 373 - 1348.
