CARE-GIVERS "Respite & Renewal"
"Respite & Renewal" is a wonderful program designed to offer Caregivers support.
We all become a Care Giver at some time during our lives. When we become a parent of an emotionally and/or physically disabled child; or we have elderly parents or relatives to care for; or we are involved in many bereavement or detention or other ministries that drain us even as we serve. From time to time we need a "Respite" and we need to be "Renewed".
This group meets every First Thursday in Rooms 3 & 4 of the Parish Hall from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Next gathering is this Thursday, October 5th. No dues! No fees! Just sharing and support and love.
For more information, please contact Margaret Pontius Evenings Only at 818 - 706 - 1842.

CHILDREN'S LITURGY OF THE WORD
We have a Children's "Liturgy of the Word" during the 9:00 a.m. Sunday Mass. Children, Kindergarten through the Fifth Grade, are dismissed from the Gathered Assembly and are taken to an area in the Parish School to hear the Readings in easier words and then reflect upon them. They return to the Assembly during the Universal Prayers.
There is NO registration. NO fees. Just send your child when the Presider calls the children forward after the Opening Prayer.
Please do not send along any child younger than Kindergarten. We have a special Pre-School Program during the 9:00 a.m. for younger children. You must register for the Pre-School Program through the Religious Ed Office.
Please call Cindy Kozal for questions, information or to volunteer: home: 818 - 707 - 7629; work: 818 - 889 - 0612 .

LECTOR TRAINING
Have you ever experienced a fleeting desire to proclaim God's Holy Word during weekday or Sunday Masses? If so, God may indeed be nudging you to become a Minister of the Word --- a Lector.
Suzanne Austin, an Archdiocesan Trainer, will facilitate six consecutive weekly-sessions leading to Lector Certification, beginning Wednesday, October 11th from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. Classes conclude November 15th.
These sessions are required for all Lectors, because they allow participants an opportunity to explore this ministry in a climate of encouragement, acceptance, and spirituality. Enrollment constitutes a desire for discernment, not a commitment.
Class size is limited. To register, please call Christine Johncola at 818 - 889 - 5708.

Couples meet monthly from September to June either at St. Jude's or St. Maximillian. Usually there is a presentation on some aspect of marriage or family life, with social time before and after each gathering as an integral part of the monthly meeting.
E-mail Prayer Chain requests are passed quickly, when asked. There is also a Monthly Women's Night Out (movie night, cookie exchange, etc.), and a Men's Softball gave Friday night fall and spring, with families enjoying pizza after early games.
Summer: Family Camping Trip, Family BBQ & Swim Party, and Family Beach Days.
For more info about all these, and for the 2000-2001 schedule and location please call Marilou O'Halloran at 805 - 494 - 6668.
Mission Statement: To support the Sacrament of Matrimony through openness to learning, sharing, growing in our married relationships; upholding the sacredness and value of Family Life; acknowledging the Presence of God in our lives; and reaching-out to support one another in both fun time and in difficult times --- thru laughter, encouraging, helping, calling, listening, forgiving, praying, holding, caring, in being Jesus to one another.

BIBLE STUDY - Sunday to Sunday
Please come join us in preparing for next Sunday's Mass. We meet to learn about and discuss the Readings for the upcoming Sunday Liturgy. Each week we watch a 20 minute video, stopping the tape at appropriate moments to discuss the material presented. We enjoy lively conversation, faith sharing moments, and good Christian fellowship, as we learn more about the Bible and thereby enable ourselves to be more fully prepared to celebrate next Sunday's Mass.
Tuesday mornings 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. in Room 7. This week we will do the "Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time" (B)." All are welcome! Come prepare for next Sunday's Mass! No preparation! No homework!
For more information, please contact Linda Odre at 805 - 373 - 1348.
