ENCUENTRO 2000
Encuentro 2000 will hold its Next Session this Wednesday, September 27th, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. All are welcome! This next session is for families. Plan to attend and bring along your 8th graders and above.
The theme for fourth this session will be: "Sharing our histories in Christ . . . How can we our parish community better reflect the gifts and contributions of all its members? How is the history of our parish family a source of hope and inspiration in confronting the challenges we face today? What changes in our attitudes might take place when challenging realities are faced and approached from our common faith in Christ?"
Encuentro 2000 is the National Celebration of the Jubilee Year by the Catholic Bishops of the United States. In each parish throughout our country, six participant friendly sessions are being held with the goal of bringing together ministries that make-up our American parishes and improving on how we interrelate. New parish members are particularly encouraged to attend and get involved.
We meet to discuss and learn, not to challenge nor to judge, nor to try to change others. Rather, through dialogue, we seek to develop better strategies for our parish to welcome all, celebrate racial, ethnic, cultural, and other group diversities. All are encouraged to attend. If you have any questions, please call Joe Bowman at 818 - 889 - 6876 after 6:00 p.m.

CARE-GIVERS "Respite & Renewal"
"Respite & Renewal" is a wonderful program designed to offer Care-Givers support.
We all become a Care Giver at some time during our lives. When we become a parent of an emotionally and/or physically disabled child; or we have elderly parents or relatives to care for; or we are involved in many bereavement or detention or other ministries that drain us even as we serve. From time to time we need a "Respite" and we need to be "Renewed".
This group meets every First Thursday in Rooms 3 & 4 of the Parish Hall from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Next gathering will meet on Thursday, October 5th. No dues! No fees! Just sharing and support and love.
For more information, please contact Margaret Pontius Evenings Only at 818 - 706 - 1842.

THE JUBILEE HOLY YEAR INDULGENCE
What Is An Indulgence? An Indulgence is "the remission before God of some or all the temporal punishment due to sins, already forgiven through the Sacrament of Penance".
What Is the Jubilee Holy Year Indulgence? It is a Special Indulgence granted by His Holiness during this Jubilee Year 2000.
How Do We Gain the Jubilee Holy Year Indulgence? Certain conditions need to be fulfilled by each person in order to gain this total remission of the temporal punishment due to our sins. Conditions are:
making a worthy Sacramental Confession, worthily receiving Holy Communion, praying for our Holy Father saying the Creed, an Our Father, a Hail Mary, and a Glory Be. either making a Pilgrimage by visiting a Church, or performing charitable works (caring for sick or elderly, visiting one in prison or in trouble, teaching a catechism class, etc.)
How Often Can we Gain this Jubilee Holy Year Indulgence? We can only gain this Indulgence once per day.
For Whom Can this Indulgence Be Gained? We can gain this Jubilee Holy Year Indulgence for someone who has died, or for ourselves.

HAVE YOU DONE YOUR PART TO HELP "OUR SISTER PARISH"?
If you have not yet made your 2000 Pledge Commitment to our Sister Parish, Holy Spirit Catholic Community in Los Angeles, and helping those less fortunate, please prayerfully consider doing so now or whenever your financial picture changes. We cannot ignore the needs of our poorest sisters and brothers. Rather, we need to stand in most heartfelt, and genuine support, with them.
"Together in Mission" truly does help our poorest parish communities, as we heard on "Announcement Sunday" when members of our Sister Parish reported to us at each Mass. Every penny raised goes to help them meet their needs.
