With the agreement and cooperation of Pastors and parish communities across the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, Cardinal Roger Mahony has requested that every parish, including our own, send the gift of weekly issues of The Tidings Catholic newspaper to at least 30% of our parishioners.  Delivery will begin with the issue of this coming Friday, September 1st.

In recent years The Tidings newspaper has been re-designed in is coverage of the global Catholic church, our local church programs and events, our school, and many great ministries and individuals, all of which has been well received by readers.  It offers Catholic perspectives on the issues and current events that challenge our faith, including those that effect our families and people of all ages.  Regular reading of its well-written articles, columns and special features will educate, inspire and unify us as we strive to live and share the gospel as one Body in Christ.

This investment in communication and continued adult religious faith formation is an important and necessary initiative as we move into a new Millennium of opportunity and challenge...and certainly much freely available information.  The work of the Lord is growing and He is calling us each to become more fully prepared to serve with well-informed minds and hearts.  The Tidings will greatly help.

For those who have been selected to receive it as a gift from the parish this year, you are very welcome and we urge you to read, enjoy and share The Tidings at every opportunity.

All are welcome to a terrific presentation on hospitality on Saturday, September 9th from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the parish hall.

Dan Schwala, who heads the Ministry of Hospitality for St. Monica's Church in Santa Monica, will be the presenter. Santa Monica is a vibrant church, very well known for their friendship and caring toward every one.

There is a Second Collection this weekend at all Masses for the Ventura Catholic Charities.     These funds are used to help local people with emergency needs.   

Please be as generous as possible.    This is another charity for those Tithing the second 5% Unto the Lord.
