(Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Communion). Lent begins on Monday in order to count 40 days before Holy Thursday. The fast during Lent is till noon each weekday; not even water is taken till after noon. Eastern Catholic Deacons cannot preside at Liturgies, nor baptize, nor marry, as Roman Deacons can.
Pope John Paul II in his apostolic letter "Orientale Lumen" encourages Roman Catholics to visit and pray with their Eastern Catholic brothers and sisters. Nine of the Eastern Catholic Churches are represented in our Archdiocese. Attending their Liturgy fulfills your Sunday Mass obligation.
The Maronite Patriarch, as the Bishop of Antioch, has the task of doing the final blessing over the remains of the deceased Bishop of Rome (the Pope), for St. Peter was Bishop of Antioch and Rome both. He does this, whether he is a cardinal or not.
Eastern Catholic Churches in our Archdiocese: Armenian: Our Lady of Queen of Martyrs (Los Angeles) St. Gregory (Glendale) Assyrian Chaldean: St. Paul's (North Hollywood) Byzantine-Ruthenian: St. Mary's Cathedral (Van Nuys) Coptic: St. Mary (Los Angeles) Maronite Antiochian: Our Lady of Mount Lebanon Cathedral (Los Angeles) Melkite Greek Byzantine: St. Anne (North Hollywood) St. Paul (El Segundo)
Russian Greek Byzantine: St. Andrew (El Segundo)
Syriac Antiochian: Jesus Sacred Heart (North Hollywood)

Father Bill is bi-ritual: Roman and Maronite.
