THE JUBILEE HOLY YEAR INDULGENCE

What Is An Indulgence?
An Indulgence is "the remission before God of some or all the temporal punishment due to sins, already forgiven through the Sacrament of Penance".

What Is the Jubilee Holy Year Indulgence?
It is a Special Indulgence granted by His Holiness during this Jubilee Year 2000.

How Do We Gain the Jubilee Holy Year Indulgence?
Certain conditions need to be fulfilled by each person in order to gain this total remission of the temporal punishment due to our sins.     Conditions are:

  1. making a worthy Sacramental Confession,
  2. worthily receiving Holy Communion,
  3. praying for our Holy Father saying:  the Creed, an Our Father, a Hail Mary, and a Glory Be.
  4. either making a Pilgrimage by visiting a Church,
  5. or performing charitable works (caring for sick or elderly, visiting one in prison or in trouble, teaching a catechism class, etc.)

How Often Can we Gain this Jubilee Holy Year Indulgence?      We can only gain this Indulgence once per day.

For Whom Can this Indulgence Be Gained?    We can gain this Jubilee Holy Year Indulgence for someone who has died, or for ourselves.

HOW MANY CONVERTS
HAVE YOU BROUGHT TO JESUS?

When you suddenly before Jesus on the day of your death, what things will you point out to Him as wonderful things you have accomplished during your life?      Will the things you point out to Him, be things that show Him the depth of your love for Him?      What things will show Him how you loved Him above all else?        How will you tell Him how you fulfilled His final command to go-out into all the world to announce His Good News, and bring others to be baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit?

Pray about it!     What will really be important on that day?     The size car you drove?   The brand of your clothing?     The music you listened to, or danced to?      The teams you rooted for?      All those things will be left behind.      In fact, none of those things will matter, unless they prevented you from living the Gospel, and from spreading that Gospel to others.

How real is your faith commitment?     Is it a Sunday thing?     Is it lived at home?   In your workplace in all you do?     During leisure times?      Do you merely say I am a disciple of Christ, but do nothing about it?      How real is your faith commitment?

Being a disciple of Christ means living it day-in, and day-out!       Being a disciple and putting Christ first, means being so proud of that discipleship that you want and try to share it with others.

Like all other Catholic Christian Communities throughout our country, our parish
RCIA Team is now taking names and interviewing those who would like to know more about us Catholic Christians.      If there is someone in your life that you would like to bring to Jesus, now is the time to invite him/her/them.      Possibly there is a person who was baptized a Catholic Christian but not raised in the faith.     Invite that person too!

Also, this is the time to contact a Fallen Away Catholic Christian you know, and invite him/her to come home.     Our Welcome Home Team is also interviewing those who have an interest in coming home.

For converts to the Catholic Christian Community of Faith, please give Jenifer Carmichael a call at
805 - 497 - 2551, or Nancy McAvoy at 805 - 480 - 4031.

For returning Catholic Christians, please call Deacon Joe Manion at the Parish Pastoral Office:
818 - 889 - 1279, ext. 219.

JUBILEE PILGRIMAGE CHURCHES

One of the ways to gain the Jubilee Indulgence is by making a Pilgrimage to the sacred shrines in the Holy Land or to the major Basilicas in Rome, or one of the churches designated by our Cardinal Archbishop.     The pilgrim must fulfill all the requirements listed above, and visit one of the churches designated by our Archbishop:

  Mission San Buenaventura
211 E. Main Street, Ventura
  Blessed Junipero Serra

HOLY YEAR DOOR IN YOUR HOME
To Remind You to Open the Doors of your
Hearts to Christ?

Pope John Paul II has issued a Call and a Challenge that each individual
"Open Wide the Doors to Christ" --- the doors of our hearts and minds and souls.    We can accomplish this by becoming reconciled with ourselves;  by reconciling with family members with whom we live;  by reconciling with those at work or school with whom we spend a lot of time;  by reconciling and forgiving anyone who has offended or hurt us;  and by reconciling with any we have hurt or offended.
