Encuentro 2000 will hold its Next Session on  Saturday, June 24^th, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at our Sister Parish, Holy Spirit in Los Angeles.   We will car-pool.    All are welcome!     The theme for this session is:  "Many Faces in God's House...how may we renew the sense of hospitality and welcome in our parish community."  Because we will be assisting our friends at Holy Spirit, we will focus on its community's needs.

Encuentro 2000 is the National Celebration of the Jubilee Year by the Catholic Bishops of the United States.     In each parish throughout our country, six participant friendly discussions are being held with the goal of bringing together ministries that make-up our American parishes and improving on how we interrelate.

We meet to discuss and learn, not to challenge nor to judge, nor to try to change others.    Rather, through dialogue, we seek to develop better strategies for our parish to welcome all, celebrate racial, ethnic, cultural, and other group diversities.    At the June 24th session we will focus on learning how to put our faith into action.

What Is An Indulgence? An Indulgence is "the remission before God of some or all the temporal punishment due to sins, already forgiven through the Sacrament of Penance".

What Is the Jubilee Holy Year Indulgence?   It is a Special Indulgence granted by His Holiness during this Jubilee Year 2000.

How Do We Gain the Jubilee Holy Year Indulgence?      Certain conditions need to be fulfilled by each person in order to gain this total remission of the temporal punishment due to our sins.     Conditions are:

• making a worthy Sacramental Confession,
  
• worthily receiving Holy Communion,
  
• praying for our Holy Father saying:   
  
• the Creed, an Our Father,
  
• a Hail Mary, and a Glory Be.
  
• either making a Pilgrimage by visiting a Church,
  
• or performing charitable works (caring for sick or elderly, visiting one in prison
  
• or in trouble, teaching a catechism class, etc.)
