PENTECOST SUNDAY --- YEAR "B" --- JUNE 11 2000

CONGRATULATIONS
DEACON JOE MANION

Joe Manion was ordained to the Order of Deacon yesterday, June 10th, by His Eminence, Roger Michael Cardinal Mahony, Archbishop of Los Angeles.    Deacon Joe Manion is officiating as a Deacon for the first time this morning at the 9:00 a.m. Mass of Thanksgiving.    This Thanksgiving Mass will be concelebrated by all our priests and sung by all our parish choirs.

There will be a Reception after the Mass in our Parish Hall for all who wish to congratulate our new Permanent Deacon.

Since the "first ministry" of a deacon is not to officiate at any Liturgy, but rather to care for the poor, the widow, the orphan, the alien, and the social outcasts, in lieu of any gifts, Deacon Joe Manion asks that we remember the poor, the social outcasts, and all who are suffering.

Please pray for Deacon Joe Manion and for all Permanent Deacons.

MANNA

The main function of a Deacon of the Church is to minister to the poor.    Deacon Joe encourages one and all to remember the poor in our midst.   As an expression of gratitude to God for calling Joe Manion to the Order of Deacon and for giving us Deacon Dick Dornan for these past many years, let us never forget the poor in our midst.    We are asked that we do this to honor the memory of a truly caring Deacon, Al Caffrey, who did so much over the years for the poor and the social outcasts.

FATHER'S DAY NOVENA OF MASSES

We will again have our Father's Day Novena of Masses for the all the fathers --- living and deceased --- you request to be remembered.      This Novena of Masses will begin next Sunday with the 5:00 p.m. Sunday Evening Mass.

To have your father, grandfather, uncle, son, brother, nephew, father-in-law, son-in-law, big brother, etc., whether living or deceased, remembered in this Novena of Mass, please his/their name(s) on the Intention Envelope found in the pews today and return it before the 5:00 p.m. Mass next Sunday evening.

If the man/men you are remembering is/are alive and you wish to give him/them a Father's Day Card, please take whatever cards you need from the Usher/Greeters today.    If the man/men is/are deceased, then just list his/their name(s) on the Intention Envelope found in the pews.
