RESPECT LIFE WEEKEND

This is our Monthly Respect Life Weekend.    Take a minute to stop by the Respect Life Table in front of church after Mass and look over their materials.     They have cassettes and videos you can borrow and take home.

MANNA

The main function of a Deacon of the Church is to minister to the poor.    In honor of Joe Manion's Ordination to the Order of Deacon this Saturday, June 10th, and his First Mass next Sunday, Deacon Joe encourages one and all to bring some canned and dry foodstuffs to church with you next weekend for
MANNA.      As an expression of gratitude to God for calling Joe Manion to the Order of Deacon and for giving us Deacon Dick Dornan for these past many years.      Deacon Joe also asks that we do this to honor the memory of a true Deacon, Al Caffrey, who did so much over the years for the poor and the social outcasts.

In addition, many have been phoning inquiring what they could give as an Ordination Gift.    Deacon Joe's response is:  please donate to the poor, to
AIDS victims, etc.     Deacon Joe would gratefully appreciate knowing you have given a substantial donation of food or cash to MANNA, to our Archdiocesan homes for AIDS victims founded by Mother Teresa or Serra House, or any other ministry to the poor.

STUDY WEEK

Over the next three weeks all the priests of our Archdiocese will be going to St. John's Major Seminary in Camarillo for a week of updating.     Father Bill will be there this week.   Father Dan will go the following week.    The Study Week begins Monday with dinner and finishes Friday after lunch.

DAY OF PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS
This Wednesday

This Wednesday, June 7th, is our Monthly Day of Prayer for Vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life.     Our day begins with the Liturgy of the Hours Morning Prayer at 7:45 a.m.     Then Mass followed by Exposition of the Most Blessed Sacrament till Benediction at 7:15 p.m.      The day closes with Mass at 7:30 p.m. and the Novena to St. Jude.

Surely each of us can spend some time praying for vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life.

PENTECOST VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

The Solemnity of Pentecost concludes the Easter Season.    This great feast offers us a vision of unity among all peoples.    The Holy Spirit empowered the Apostles to preach to people from many nations and to be heard in the languages each spoke, creating among them a new community united by the Holy Spirit.

We urge all members of our parish who would like to proclaim a Reading in a language other than English, to dress the altar, or present the gifts on Pentecost to contact Maria Valentin at
818 - 545 - 4610 so she can schedule your participation.

Also, one and all are invited who have cultural attire from the countries of origin to wear this clothing to Mass next weekend to celebrate Pentecost.    Thank you for gracing us with your special gifts.

CONGRATULATIONS
TO JOE MANION
Who Will Be Ordained Deacon this Saturday

Joe Manion will be ordained to the Order of Deacon this Saturday, June 10th, by His Eminence, Roger Michael Cardinal Mahony, the Archbishop of Los Angeles.    Deacon Joe Manion will officiate as Deacon for the first time next Sunday.     He will be Deacon at the 9:00 a.m. Mass of Thanksgiving, which will be concelebrated by all our priests and sung by all our parish choirs.

There will be a Reception in the Parish Hall afterwards for all to congratulate our new Permanent Deacon.

In place of any gifts, Deacon Joe Manion asks that we remember the poor, the social outcasts, and all who are suffering.     The "first ministry" of a deacon is
not to officiate at any Liturgy, but rather to care for the poor, the widow, the orphan, the alien, and the social outcasts.

Please pray for him and for all Permanent Deacons.
