MOTHER'S DAY NOVENA OF MASSES
Begins This Sunday Evening

We will again have a Novena of Masses beginning with the 5:00 p.m. Mass this evening, Mother's Day, for all those --- living and deceased --- whom you request to be remembered in this Novena of Masses.

To have your mother, grandmother, aunt, wife, sister, daughter, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, daughter-in-law, remembered in this Novena of Masses, please write her/their name(s) on the Intention Envelope found in the pews this weekend.     Please return that Intention Envelope as soon as possible.    These Intention Envelopes will be placed in front of the altar throughout the Novena of Masses, to remind us all to pray for these wonderful women.

If the mother/woman that you are remembering is alive and you would like to give her a Mother's Day Card that indicates that she is being remembered in our Novena of Masses, then please take one of the Cards you will find at the doors of the church.   Do remember to fill-out the Intention Card and return it as soon as possible.

COLLECTION NEXT WEEKEND
FOR RETIRED PRIESTS

The Archdiocese currently provides for 143 retired priests.    In the next five years that number will increase to 200.    And, in the next 20 years 200 priests are expected to retire.    It is estimated that the Retirement Fund to care for our priests will need at least $15,000,000.00.

For the next ten years, an anonymous donor has pledged to match dollar-for-dollar up to $500,000.00 a year that parishioners contribute each of those years.

While retired priests stay active in some kind of part time ministry., they never retire from being a priest.

When a priest needs medical care or convalescent care, the cost escalates.    For instance, when Father Jim McKeon of our parish was in St. John of God Convalescent Hospital, his monthly bill was over $5,800.00, not including doctor or hospital costs when needed.      Since Father Jim had no personal funds, the Archdiocese had to pay all his bills.

These men have given their lives in the service of the people of Los Angeles, let's not forget them.     Rather, let's continue to support them for all they have done for us.

The Usher/Greeters will pass out special envelopes today.    Please be generous, for they have been generous to you!

This is another charity for those who are tithing to give of their second 5%.

MOTHER'S DAY PRAYER

Loving Father,
As a mother gives life and nourishment to her children,
So You watch over Your Church.
Bless these mothers,
That they may be strengthened as Christian moms.
Let the example of their faith and love shone forth.
Grant that we, their sons and daughters,
May honor them always

With a spirit of profound respect.
Grant this through Christ, our Lord.

Amen.

MASTER CALENDAR

All parish groups/programs who use our parish facilities are asked to please present their Calendar of Usage listing the days and times they need any parish facility for the coming year:  July 1st, 2000 through June 30th, 2001. The request sheets will be mailed out to all heads of Ministries and Organizations next week. This listing must be submitted before Friday, May 26th. The Master Calendar will be put together before the end of May.

No matter how many years your group/program has used any facility, please submit a Calendar of Usage.    Those putting the Master Calendar together are human and at times cannot remember from one year to the next regarding each and every group's usage.     Failure to submit a Calendar of usage, could possibly result in your group/program be left off the 2000-2001 Master Calendar.       The Parish School, the Religious Education, and the Liturgical Ministries have first choices,
provided they submit a Calendar of Usage.

BLESSING OF EXPECTANT MOMS TODAY

Today we are offering a special Blessing for all Expectant Mothers.    We are praying as a parish family that these moms may have healthy babies and safe deliveries,

"TOGETHER IN MISSION"

If you have not yet made your 2000 Pledge Commitment to our Sister Parish and helping those less fortunate, please prayerfully consider doing so now or whenever your financial picture changes.     We cannot ignore the needs of our poorest sisters and brothers.     Rather, we need to stand in most heartfelt, and genuine support, with them.

"Together in Mission" truly does help our poorest parish communities, as we heard on "Announcement Sunday" when members of our Sister Parish reported to us at each Mass.     Every penny raised goes to help them meet their needs.
