RESPECT LIFE WEEKEND

This is our parish's monthly Respect Life Weekend.    Please take a moment to stop by the Respect Life Table in front of the church as you leave Mass today.    Look over their brochures, videos and cassettes which you may borrow and take home.

Remember too our "Crib Project", which gathers baby items to help unwed mothers and so support human life.    This project involves collecting supplies for newborns and soon to be mothers.   Items needed are disposable diapers, cribs, baby sheets and blankets, bottles, powdered formula, baby wipes, new or nearly-new toddler clothes, cribs and play-pens, high chairs, strollers and toys.    You may drop these items off the first weekend of the month at the Respect Life Table.    If you have a lot, you may call Maureen Yared at
805 - 492 - 9629, or Mary Linn at 818 - 889 - 7849.

MOTHER'S DAY NOVENA OF MASSES
Begins Next Sunday

We will again have a Novena of Masses beginning on Mother's Day, May 14th, for all those --- living and deceased --- whom your request to be remembered in this Novena of Masses.

To have your mother, grandmother, aunt, wife, sister, daughter, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, daughter-in-law, remembered in this Novena of Masses, please write her/their name(s) on the Intention Envelope found in the pews this weekend.     Please return that Intention Envelope before the 5:00 p.m. Mass next Sunday evening.    These Intention Envelopes will be placed in front of the altar throughout the Novena of Masses, to remind us all to pray for these wonderful women.

If the mother/woman that you are remembering is alive and you would like to give her a Mother's Day Card that indicates that she is being remembered in our Novena of Masses, then please take one of the Cards being passed out by the Usher/Greeters today at Mass.   Do remember to fill-out the Intention Card and return it before next Sunday's Evening Mass at 5:00 p.m.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNIONS
This Weekend Again

First Holy Communions began last weekend.    Again this weekend, still other parish children will be receiving Jesus in His Eucharistic Presence for the first time at the 9:00 a.m., 12:00 noon and 5:00 p.m. Masses.     Pray for these parish children and their families that they may always be close to Our Lord.

Because parents are the first teachers of their children, they have the chief responsibility to share the Faith by their example, by their words, and by bringing their children to catechetical classes.     Parents show their primacy as educators by bringing their children to the Community of Faith for Baptism.    Parents bring their children to the confessional for God's healing mercy and forgiveness.    Parents also bring their children to the Lord to receive Him for the first time.   May God truly bless and reward these loving parents, who not only share earthly blessings with their children, but who care enough to share heavenly values and graces with their children!     May God daily help these parents be real examples of living faith!

BLESSING OF EXPECTANT MOTHERS

Next Sunday is Mother's Day. During all the Masses, we will bless all women who are expecting babies. We will pray as a parish community that they may have a healthy baby and a safe delivery.

A MOTHER'S DAY PRAYER

Loving Father,
As a mother gives life and nourishment to her children,
So You watch over Your Church.
Bless these women,
That they may be strengthened as Christian moms.
Let the example of their faith and love shine forth.
Grant that we, their sons and daughters,
May honor them always
With a spirit of profound respect.
Grant this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

SANDWICHES TOMORROW

Sandwiches for Las Familias del Pueblo will be made tomorrow, Monday, May 8th, at 10:00 a.m. in our parish hall.    Many hands make light work.

The gift for the month of May is underwear sizes 4 to 12.

SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION
This Saturday at 5:00 p.m.

His Eminence, Roger Cardinal Mahony, Archbishop of Los Angeles, will administer the Sacrament of Confirmation at the 5:00 p.m. Vigil Mass this Saturday, May 13th.    One and all are invited to come and celebrate with our parish teenagers who will be confirmed that evening.

In preparation for completing their Sacraments of Initiation, these high school students have completed the two year required parish-based catechetical classes.    They have also completed the required hours of Christian Service;  many have done much more than the required hours of Christian Service.    And they have made the two required weekend retreats.
As our parish teens prepare for the coming of the Holy Spirit upon them in the completion of the Sacraments of Initiation this Saturday, let us offer special prayers for them all this week that they may stay close to God.

"TOGETHER IN MISSION"

If you have not yet made your 2000 Pledge Commitment to our Sister Parish and helping those less fortunate, please prayerfully consider doing so now or whenever your financial picture changes.     We cannot ignore the needs of our poorest sisters and brothers.     Rather, we need to stand in most heartfelt, and genuine support, with them.

"Together in Mission" truly does help our poorest parish communities, as we heard on "Announcement Sunday" when members of our Sister Parish reported to us at each Mass.     Every penny raised goes to help them meet their needs.
