"TOGETHER IN MISSION"

If you have not yet made your 2000 Pledge Commitment to our Sister Parish and helping those less fortunate, please prayerfully consider doing so now or whenever your financial picture changes.     We cannot ignore the needs of our poorest sisters and brothers.     Rather, we need to stand in most heartfelt, and genuine support, with them.

"Together in Mission" truly does help our poorest parish communities, as we heard on "Announcement Sunday" when members of our Sister Parish reported to us at each Mass.     Every penny raised goes to help them meet their needs.

STANDING AT MASS

We stand from the "Our Father" till all have received Holy Communion.     Those who cannot stand for health reasons, are allowed to sit as the rubrics in the Sacramentary direct.

The purpose behind this practice, is to remind the Gathered Assembly that many though we are, we become one body in Christ and one with each other in Christ.     As one body, all doing the same thing, we stand together while singing together the Communion Hymn of praise unto the Lord.     Only after all have received, do we then sit together to spend some time in quiet meditation and prayer with the Eucharistic Lord within us.

ENCUENTRO 2000

The second session of Encuentro 2000 will be held on Saturday, May 27th in the parish hall beginning at 9:00 a.m. One and all are invited and encouraged to attend. Sessions will be held throughout the year.

Encuentro 2000
is the National Celebration of the Jubilee Year sponsored by the Catholic Bishops of the United States. In each parish throughout our country, six participant friendly sessions will be held with the goal of bring together individuals from the culture, ethnic communities, and diverse ministries that make-up our American parishes. New parish members are particularly encouraged to attend and get involved.

We meet in those sessions to discuss and learn, not to challenge or judge or try to change others. Rather, through dialogue, we seek to develop better strategies for our parish to welcome all to celebrate racial, ethnic, cultural, and other group diversities. And, to learn to be more hospitable to the vulnerable and to newcomers to our parish community.

Joseph  Cardinal Ratzinger wrote some 35 years ago as the church began to revitalize its practices to open wider its doors that, "Being Catholic means being united with others, to help one another in the case of need, to learn by that which is good in others and to share generously one's own good, it means trying to become acquainted with one another and accepting other's differences."

HOLY YEAR DOOR IN YOUR HOME
To Remind You to Open the Doors of your Hearts to Christ?

Pope John Paul II has issued a Call and a Challenge that each individual
"Open Wide the Doors to Christ" --- the doors of our hearts and minds and souls.    We can accomplish this by becoming reconciled with ourselves;  by reconciling with family members with whom we live;  by reconciling with those at work or school with whom we spend a lot of time;  by reconciling and forgiving anyone who has offended or hurt us;  and by reconciling with any we have hurt or offended.

YOUR JUBILEE DOOR

We have been encouraged by our Holy Father to mark "a" door in our homes, schools, parishes, and even our offices with a Door Hanger stating "Open Wide the Doors to Christ."      There are packets in our Parish Pastoral Office for making a Jubilee Door in your home.
