PASSION SUNDAY --- YEAR "B" --- APRIL 16, 2000

BORN AGAIN OF WATER AND
THE HOLY SPIRIT

By God's gift, through water and the Holy Spirit, the following infants were reborn this past weekend to everlasting life. May God our loving Father, Jesus, our Lord and Brother, and the Holy spirit make them always, wherever they may be, faithful members of His holy people, the Church.

Let us welcome these new members into our parish family, and let us also congratulate their parents for sharing their faith with their children.

PASSION (Palm) SUNDAY

Lenten Readings:     This week the Readings focus on the submission to the Will of God.     While this submission always involves suffering ad sacrifice, it will ultimately bring glory.   And we will not suffer and struggle alone --- God is always beside us.    In Isaiah, the Suffering Servant of God tells of his continuing struggle in the face of opposition.    This struggle is made possible because of God's gracious gifts.    The hymn from St. Paul's Letter to the Philippians reminds us that Christ too submitted to the father's Will and accepted suffering, leading to His exaltation in heave, on earth, and under the earth.    The Gospel proclaimed recounts the Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ.    All He endured and underwent for our salvation.    As we have been conformed to Christ through Baptism, so we are called to follow in His footsteps.   As we share in His suffering and death, we hope to share in the glory of His resurrection.

For the last time, our
"Elect" are dismissed during the Sunday Liturgy.    May our prayers go with them as they spend this last week preparing to receive the Sacraments of Initiation this Holy Saturday.     Holy Saturday morning they will spend in prayer.    Their time of preparation ends with anointing with the newly blessed Oil of Catechumens.     Those with "*" were baptized in another ecclesial community and will profess their faith as Catholic Christians, and will then receive First Eucharist and Confirmation.    The others will be receive all three Sacraments of Initiation:  Baptism, Confirmation and First Eucharist.
