What Is An Indulgence? An Indulgence is "the remission before God of some or all the temporal punishment due to sins, already forgiven through the Sacrament of Penance".

What Is the Jubilee Holy Year Indulgence?   It is a Special Indulgence granted by His Holiness during this Jubilee Year 2000.

How Do We Gain the Jubilee Holy Year Indulgence?      Certain conditions need to be fulfilled by each person in order to gain this total remission of the temporal punishment due to our sins.

1. making a worthy Sacramental Confession,
   
2. worthily receiving Holy Communion,
   
3. praying for our Holy Father saying: the Creed, an Our Father, a Hail Mary, and a Glory Be.
   
4. either making a Pilgrimage by visiting a Church,
   
5. or performing charitable works (caring for sick or elderly, visiting one in prison
   

St. Jude's Parish Community is going to the Holy Land from October 21^st, to November 1st, 2000.     We leave one week after the Oktoberfest.     

Cost:  $2,170.00 net price per person in a double room.    $455.00 supplement for a single room.    Price includes round trip air-fare to Holy Land; arrival and departure transfers; two meals daily (breakfast and table d'hote dinner); farewell dinner party with wine, soft drinks, coffee and tea;  porterage at airport;   land transportation and guide;   entrance fees to all sites;   daily Mass at different Holy land shrines;   12 days of pilgrimage and over night stays in first class hotels. .    To date, 25 people have signed-up and paid their deposit.    The trip is limited to 40 people.

NB:    For those who would like to visit Cairo and Luxor, there is a Side Trip for 8 days (3 days in hotel in Cairo, 4 days on ship on Nile, and last night in Cairo before returning) for an additional $1,500.00 or less depending upon how many wish to go.   To date five (5) have signed up for this portion of the trip.   As the number rises the cost falls.

One of the ways to gain the Jubilee Indulgence is by making a Pilgrimage to the sacred shrines in the Holy Land or to the major Basilicas in Rome, or one of the churches designated by our Cardinal Archbishop.     The pilgrim must pray fulfill all the requirements listed above, and visit one of the churches designated by our Archbishop:

  Mission San Buenaventura

  Blessed Junipero Serra
5205 Upland Road, Camarillo.

Each parish has been asked to make a "Pilgrimage together" after seeking God's healing mercy and reconciliation.    Individuals can also seek these graces on their own after they have tried their best to choose life, have forgiven all who have hurt them, and have sought to be reconciled with God and neighbor.

Our Parish Pilgrimage to Mission San Buenaventura will be on the third Sunday of December to conclude our Encuentro 2000 program.    Buses will be provided.     Sign-Up for the buses will be held during November and at Encuentro 2000 sessions.     The perfect preparation for this Pilgrimage of Faith would be to take an active part in the Encuentro 2000 program of only six sessions.

We have been encouraged by our Holy Father to mark "a" door in our homes, schools, parishes, and even our offices with a Door Hanger stating "Open Wide the Doors to Christ."      There are packets in our Parish Pastoral Office for making a Jubilee Door in your home.

Dolores Mission in East Los Angeles still has a real need for sleeping bags and blankets.    Also needed are men's shower sandals.
