THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT --- YEAR "B" --- MARCH 26, 2000

BORN AGAIN OF WATER AND
THE HOLY SPIRIT

By God's gift, through water and the Holy Spirit, the following infants were reborn this past weekend to everlasting life. May God our loving Father, Jesus, our Lord and Brother, and the Holy spirit make them always, wherever they may be, faithful members of His holy people, the Church.

Let us welcome these new members into our parish family, and let us also congratulate their parents for sharing their faith with their children.

THIS WEEK IN OUR PARISH

UNIVERSAL CHURCH COLLECTION
THIS WEEKEND

Each year on the Fourth Sunday of Lent, we take up a Second Collection to aid the poorest of the poor throughout the world.     We recognize those suffering in other countries as our brothers and sisters in Christ, and we reach out to them in the deepest needs.    The Catholic Church is called to be the living sign of the unity of the human family.     We are called in solidarity with our neighbors all over the world that share common faith heritage.   This is done in response to the Lord telling us what we do for others, we do for Him.

The on-going famine in Sudan and Northern Africa cries out for food and relief.    The suffering millions in Southeastern Africa from the recent flooding beseeches us to help them in their dire straits.     Then there are those suffering from ethnic strife in parts of Eastern Europe, the Mid-East, and parts of Asia leaving them homeless and without food or shelter. The current needs are great.

Our biggest concern today is rising prices at the gas pump and for housing.    We have needs, but our sisters and brothers through the world have more basic needs.    Let us be generous next weekend.

Our American Bishops with the Bishops of the peoples who need the funds the most will share all funds raised.     No funding will go through any government channels, so that as much help as possible can be obtained.     In fact, we should take pride in the fact that Catholic Relief Services ranks as one of the largest and most efficient relief and development agencies in the world, and is at work in over 80 countries. Please be as generous as possible, as the need is great!

DAY FOR VOCATIONS WEDNESDAY

This Wednesday will be our Monthly Day of Prayer with Jesus for Vocations to the Priesthood and the Religious Life.      The day begins with praying the Liturgy of the Hours Morning Prayer at 7:45 a.m.    Then comes Mass followed by Exposition of the Most Blessed Sacrament till 7:15 p.m.    Benediction will be held at 7:15 p.m. followed by the 7:30 p.m. Evening Mass and Novena to St. Jude.

Surely each of us can spend a few minutes praying with Jesus for Vocations.    Praying for those whom the Lord is calling to be His priests and His religious brothers and sisters.   And also praying for all who have responded to that Call, that they may faithfully live out their Calling.

TODAY IS BUNDLE SUNDAY

Today our parish is having a Bundle Sunday for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.    Please bring your useable clothes and useable household items to their truck that is parked near the Media Room.     Help them in their endless efforts to assist the needy.     They have a desperate need for furniture and large appliances.

Call them to pick-up heavy items at your home:
