THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT --- YEAR "B" --- MARCH 26, 2000

BORN AGAIN OF WATER AND
THE HOLY SPIRIT

By God's gift, through water and the Holy Spirit, the following infants were reborn this past weekend to everlasting life. May God our loving Father, Jesus, our Lord and Brother, and the Holy spirit make them always, wherever they may be, faithful members of His holy people, the Church.

Let us welcome these new members into our parish family, and let us also congratulate their parents for sharing their faith with their children.

SECOND COLLECTION NEXT WEEKEND

Each year on the Fourth Sunday of Lent, we take up a Second Collection to aid the poorest of the poor throughout the world.     We recognize those suffering in other countries as our brothers and sisters in Christ, and we reach out to them in the deepest needs.     This is done in response to the Lord telling us what we do for others, we do for Him.    It is also done as almsgiving is an important part of Lenten practices.

The on-going famine in Sudan and Northern Africa cries out for food and relief.    The suffering millions in Southeastern Africa from the recent flooding beseeches us to help them in their dire straits.     Then there are those suffering from ethnic strife in parts of Eastern Europe, the Mid-East, and parts of Asia leaving them homeless and without food or shelter. The current needs are great.

Our biggest concern today is rising prices at the gas pump and for housing.    We have needs, but our sisters and brothers through the world have more basic needs.    Let us be generous next weekend.

All funds raised, will be shared by our American Bishops with the Bishops of the peoples who need the funds the most.     No funding will go through any government channels, so that as much help as possible can be obtained.

US CENSUS

One and all are encouraged to fully participate in the current US Census.    It is a matter of record that the 1990 Census was grossly undercounted.     As a result, California lost out on millions of tax dollars for roads and other federal projects and funding.     We also lost much needed funding to use for the underprivileged living here in our State.

Please return your questionnaire as soon as possible, even if you got a long form.
